Reporting To Vice Chancellor
Key, Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop, implement and monitor annual activity plans and budgets against set targets and objectives;
2. Manage information resources through an effective cataloguing and classification system;
3. Coordinate the development of well stocked and continually update libraries for proper functioning of the University Library;
4. Supervise and appraise Library staff;
5. Coordinate with strategic partners to ensure the acquisition, development and proper maintenance of Library resources;
6. Coordinate annual stocktaking exercise for a proper audit and accountability of all library resources;
7. Coordinate the training of library staff and users and ensure the development and implementation of the training programs;
8. Develop and implement an effective knowledge organization system in order to ensure rapid access and retrieval of information;
9. Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
i. Must have PhD in Library & Information Science or Information Systems or Information Technology from a recognized institution;
ii. Master’s degree in Library and information Science (LIS) or Information Systems or Information Technology from a recognized institution;
iii. Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) or Information Systems or Information Technology from a recognized institution;
iv. Should have at least 5 new peer reviewed publications in the last five years
Experience: Must have served for 12 years in an Academic Library environment, 3 of which should have been at senior managerial level in a reputable organization
Skills/Competences
1. Should have mentored Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals by teaching or supervising their research work and / or setting up LIS units;
2. Leadership and supervisory skills;
3. Ability to build, lead and work with teams;
4. Computer literacy; Interpersonal and communication skills;
5. Quick judgement and decision making;
6. Ability to initiate change;
7. Should have relevant skills in Library and Information Science;
8. Should have a track record of integrity.
Tenure of Appointment 5- year Contract
