Job Details:
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda), was founded to contribute to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO is implementing various projects funded by the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPF AR) through the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Global Fund in partnership with various Implementing Partners to support the Government of Uganda accelerate epidemic control and the attainment of the UNAIDS 95 95 95 goals. TASO requires the services of dedicated, competent, innovative and result-oriented individuals for employment on a contract basis for the posts below;
Job Title: REF: TS/HRI PMGT 01: Laboratory Technician
Classification: Contract, full-time
Reports to: Medical Services Technical Lead
Salary: Commensurate with training and experience
Duty Station: TASO Rukungiri CoE Directly Supervises: None
Main Purpose of the Job:
To administer laboratory services of the Centre of Excellence, and ensure that the services are well planned for, provided with necessary resources and implemented in accordance with set policies and standards.

• Work plans and budget developed
• Laboratory services managed
• Procurements on Laboratory items followed up and made
• Quality assurance ensured
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Prepare work plans for laboratory activities
• Draft budgets for laboratory equipment and reagents
• Ensure functionality of Laboratory Information Systems
• Carry out routine laboratory tests
• Record & interpret results of laboratory tests
• Prepare solutions, reagents and stains
• Prepare and maintain laboratory specimens and sampl
• Monitor functionality oflaboratory equipment.
• Monitor usage of laboratory supplies
• Prepare reports and submit in time
• Make specifications of required HIV test kits, laboratory supplies & reagents for procurement
• Verify supplies & reagents procured
• Monitor inventory levels & order materials & supplies
• Maintain quality assurance, control in Laboratory & SOP's
• Ensure adherence to nationally accepted laboratory algorithms
• Ensure proper disposal practices
• Provide health education to staff and clients
Person specifications: Laboratory Technician
• Minimum Academic Qualification: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
• Minimum Experience and Exposure: Two (2) years of laboratory work experience. Special Knowledge
• Laboratory diagnosis techniques
• Basic facts about HIV / AIDS
• HIV / AIDS Care policies and procedures
