Uganda Heart Institute is established by The Uganda Heart Institute Act 2016 as an Autonomous Government Entity to undertake and coordinate the prevention and treatment of Cardiovascular disease in Uganda.

Job Title: Senior Consultant (Cardiac Critical Care)
Number of posts: One (1)
Salary Scale: UISE
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director
The Senior Consultant will be responsible for efficient management of cardiac critical care at the Uganda Heart Institute
Duties & Responsibilities:
• To diagnose, manage conditions and complications requiring critical care.
• Conduct, manage and supervise ward rounds in the cardiac critical care unit and high care wards;
• Supervise and train Consultants, Medical Officers Special Grade, medical Officers and other Health
• Professionals in the cardiac critical care;
• Plan and coordinate training programmes of all health professionals under him/her;
• Provide technical and professional advice in his/ her area of specialty to Government and Health facilities:
• Teach postgraduate and undergraduate medical students and other health professional students;
• Supervise and train intern doctors:
• To ensure that discipline and the ethical code of conduct are observed by the staff in the cardiac critical care department;
• Plan, coordinate and conduct operational research in his/her specialty:
• Plan and coordinate Continuing Professional Development in cardiac critical care for health professionals at the Institute and affiliate health facilities in Uganda;
• Advise on the procurement of equipment, drugs and other logistics required for cardiac critical care;
• Develop work plans and budgets for cardiac critical care department;
• appraise performance of staff in the cardiac critical care department.
Person Specifications:
• MB.CHB from a recognized University/Institution.
• Master of Medicine degree in Anaesthesia/ Surgery/ Paediatrics/ Internal Medicine with a Fellowship in Cardiac Intensive Care Management (at least two (2) years training or one-year training with anesthesia background) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized University/Institution.
• Must be registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
• A proven record of research and publications.
Experience:
Should have a good working experience of at least nine 19) years, four (4) of which should have been at Consultant- Intensivist level.
