JOB TITLE: Network and Systems Assistant
BUSINESS UNIT: Information Technology
REPORTS TO: Head Of IT
Main Purpose/Mission of the job:
The Network and Systems Assistant is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, operations and security of the Sanlam network and information systems, including file servers, networked data storage, application software, data communication devices and disaster recovery utilities.
Critical Responsibilities
1. Network and Systems Administration
• Install, configure and maintain servers, server operating systems, networked data storage, network application software and data communications devices.
• Diagnose and resolve problems and concerns associated with implemented information systems, network software applications and peripheral devices reported by staff and administrative users.
• Manage Enterprise firewalls, threat detection systems and Server farm infrastructure
• Coordinate with Sanlam users to evaluate information system requirements and develop hardware/software solutions to provide required services.
• Collaborate with the department staff to analyze, design, research equipment options and develop technical specifications for network topologies and configurations.
2. Maintenance and Asset Management
• Maintain an accurate inventory of information system servers, data storage devices, and installed software; ensure that software license agreements are current and accurate in accordance with Sanlam policy.
• Implement disaster recovery systems and develop procedures to ensure the reliability of institutional data resources and recovery in the event of a catastrophic event.
3. Information security and IT Governance
• Implement, maintain, and update security measures to ensure the integrity of institutional data resources and prevent unauthorized access to network systems
• Maintain operational, procedural and informational documentation for information systems, implemented security measures and disaster recovery procedures.
• Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
• Ensure network and systems uptime as per the SLA
• Support critical business processes (Client Service, New Business, and Premium Administration)
• Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
• Acquire and maintain the requisite technical skills to perform systems management and network operations activities in support of business data processing and network communications.

Knowledge required (to do the job):
• Bachelor’s degree In computer science, IT or level or equivalent
• Cisco Certification, MCSA, MCITP
• Firewall Management and Domain level management
• Server Management and networking
• First level support
Experience required (to do the job):
• 2 years experience in an IT environment
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Highly proactive and motivated
